Around & About

My gosh. It seems like i write these 'back in edinburgh again' posts all the time. But here we go! I'm back in Edinburgh again after a trip the glorious south to attend the Pavement curated ATP at Butlins in Minehead followed by a few days at home with the parents. Above is the beach at Minehead where Jez and I (wisely) chose to watch the sun go down rather than endure a set by the Fall.

Its been a lovely sunny weekend here and the other night we went for a magical late evening around nearby Blackford Hill. We're so lucky that our new place is close to the Blackford, its so beautiful and peaceful and there are myriad wooded paths to wander not to mention an amazing view from the top.

New Work

New print on sale very soon! If you're in Edinburgh on Saturday it'll be on sale with all sorts of other things at the Springtime Jamboree Craft Fair at the Roxy. In the meantime if you're one of the next three people to buy something my shop you'll get this tree tower for free!

Oh and I made some new cards too!

A little illustration I did for the Eastwing news page marking the birthday of the British National Gallery.

Coco & Claude

On Sunday Verity and I put up our window display in, quite frankly, the best chocolate shop in the country. Coco of Bruntsfield is filled with all manner of edible revelations not to mention incredible hot chocolate (my favourite being white chocolate with lavender and lemongrass.yum).
Anyway our window was based on their super cool tattoo chocolate box so we went for a 1900's tattoo theme and uh here it is! More photos of claude's (thats his name) development on flickr.

Back again!

Hello gang! I'm back. After an unintentional hiatus in which i went south to Brighton (lunch with collage queen Seiko Kato) then to London to see Jez and his Evening Tweed cohorts steal the show at Pick Me Up. If you were lucky enough to see the massive show at Somerset House you will have seen Evening Tweed's wonderful hunting lodge style room (above) filled with tasty prints and comfy chairs. Oh and this fella...

Then I came back here to get on with work for an impending project with
Verity. The results of which you'll see on Monday I hope! Only hours after my return my laptop cable gave up on life and rendered me computerless for 5 days while I waited for a new one! Alas alack etc. Anyway I'm back in the digital work now and hopefully I'll manage a slightly more regular blogging schedule once again. New work on its way but in the meantime I posted all of the images from my Dead Landscapes zine on my website.

If you're in Edinburgh next weekend I'll have stuff for sale at the
Made In The Shade Springtime Jamboree at the Roxy on Saturday. I'll have a joint stall with the unstoppable Lindsay Grime. Alas I wont be at the fair (i'll be at
ATP in Minehead) but Verity has stepped up to the mark and will be holding the fort for me. She'll be bringing a few of her lovely prints too! Phew...that was a long one. As you were.

Studio

Still got stuff to unpack here but the one room that is sorted is the spare bedroom which also doubles up as a great wee studio for me! And this is it.

Today I like....

Building new in old. I LOVE this idea so much.

Great pattern by Hannah Waldron

Incredible sand floor painting by Elvire Wersche. Argh! So precise and yet so easy to damage!
Tasty colours too! More here.

Oh! And yesterday I added five handpainted 'Anja's Tattoos' gocco prints to my etsy shop

New & Old

So in amongst packing boxes, lifting boxes and unpacking boxes I have actually been drawing things. Sadly I cant really prove it as somewhere in between our old flat and our new flat we've managed to lose the power cables for our printer/scanner. AMAZING. So the little pile of new drawings I have to show you shall remain a mystery. Damn. I have managed to find a picture I did pre-move for a zine about favourite musicians. I chose St Vincent because she's flipping amazing and has a lovely face for drawing. Just a B&W dealie I'm afraid but right now its all I've got!

I've just added two different one off digital prints to my etsy shop. They're crazy nice quality and quite big (a3 anyway). They were printed for an exhibition a while back and they got sent back to me today.

WINNERS

Its been a busy week. We moved house on the warmest day in ages and since then we've been unpacking and sorting and cleaning and all sorts. Thankfully the end is in site now and I can get back to work again. Our internet connection got set up yesterday so today I am very pleased to announce the three winners of my print giveaway! As usual I used random.org to draw three numbers from the imaginary hat. And those numbers were.....

16-Tigerlilly Quinn
4- Philip Kennedy
34-Livi Gosling

If you guys could email me at lizzy (@) abouttoday.co.uk with your postal addresses I'll get your mystery packages winging their way to you very very soon! Thanks to everyone for your kind and lovely comments. You're all splendid!

Giveaway Time! (again)

So sometime in the last week my blog gained its 400th (and now 402nd) follower. To mark this I'm going to give away some stuff! Hurrah! In clearing out our current flat to move into the new flat I happened across a selection of prints of varying shapes and sizes. I'm going to split them into three bundles and offer them to you fine folk! All you need to do is leave a comment on this here post before 5pm (GMT) on Friday April 16th and I'll draw three names out at random. EASY!

(p.s there are more prints than just the ones pictured!)

Wishlists

All spare cash is currently being pumped into things for our new flat but if I was feeling flash I'd love this necklace from Dot Over Dot. Firstly I adore the combination of the brass with the blue but then there's the added bonus of being able to shift the brass bars into different configurations. Nice!

I got invited to Svpply a few weeks back. Its great. But sort of depressing. Anyway if you're interested in seeing what I would buy if I had lots of money (and wall/wardrobe space) then my Svpply page is here

Lets move to Norway and live somewhere lovely!
I've been spending too much time browsing My Scandinavian Retreat.
Jez finished designing a new print today and damn I love the colourscheme.

"The Eternal Rocks Beneath"

Hello! I hope everyone had a lovely long easter weekend. Been quite for a few days. Its been a busy week. We're gradually moving stuff from our old flat to our new one and sorting through the tat we've amassed so quickly. Expect erratic blogging for the next week or so.

Above is an image for a personal portfolio project on Wuthering Heights. It has long been one of my absolute favourite books and my very dog eared copy stands testament to that. Anyway this is my imagining of Catherine Earnshaw; all wild hair and hypnotic gaze.

I've also started up a tumblr as a way of archiving stuff I like. I'll still keep this as my main work/rambling blog but if you fancy popping by and seeing whats keeping me inspired then you can do so here.

towns & tigers

We're signing the lease on our new flat on thursday and i would really appreciate if someone would please give me a copy of this super nice world map by the incredible Oliver Jeffers for You Me The Royal We for our empty new walls.

Lotta Nieminen make truly wonderful illustrations. Her choice of colours, textures and subject matter are all spot on. I could look at the image above for hours and i think i'd keep finding winning details hidden in there.

THIS is just the cutest print. Reminds me of one of my favourite children's books, the Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Am currently really enjoying Too Much Perspective. A comedy blog run by one of my friends and some of his friends. Lots of the reference are very british so might fall flat to you non uk types but...yeah..its great.

There are TWO new prints for sale on my etsy shop as of today! Splendid.

Modest Triumps

This version of Millais' Ophelia by Jaako Pallasvuo and Henna Hyvarinen makes me want to give up drawing and hide under a rock. It is just so incredibly beautiful.

So much of the work on Maxwell Loren Holyoke Hirsch's site is amazing. He's been one of my favourites for the past few years and his most recent work only serves to highlight why that is. So much great use of colour and texture.

Am quite taken with this lovely lovely print by Jamie Shelman. Its just so summery!

Forgot to say that we have hardly any copies of
We Are The Friction left (under 20) stop by our site to get your hands on a copy before its too late!

Oh! And Forever Is Today is my new favourite blog.

Super cool shopping opportunities!

A few things to start the week with.... My boyfriend has just opened up his own online shop. Its small but perfectly formed right now but will be growing very soon! The print above is one of my favourites of his. The bluey-black and red is a winning combination!

The T-shirt I did with those pesky kids at Tiny Showcase is now on sale for a dangerously reasonable $10! $10!

I put together a zine of some of the images from my exhibition and its on etsy now!

Still got a handful of drawings for sale. Email me if you're keen!
