Something or Nothing

I'm currently trying to get my head around a project I dreamt up a couple of years ago (do you have those? the things that sit on your list that you really want to do but want to get 'right' so badly that they get shelved? I have loads). Its maybe complicated but maybe not complicated at all. I can't decide. Anyway this is an image for that. Or, at least, it would have been. I was happy with it for a day and now I've decided its totally wrong. This is the prerogative of the fickle artist i'm afraid! Anyway I thought I should share something as there's been a bit of a radio silence around here work-wise!

Not sure what the original idea/story was that makes you feel this is wrong, but I find it enchanting. I love things that demand a second, closer look, as when I realized that the "crown" on her head was a little village...

I have those projects too - where we wait until we think we are 'good' enough to do them! I've had fits and starts with a lot of different projects, but I've found that if I try to force them they never turn out right - I've always found it's best to focus on things that energize you. I'd just give it a little more time and come back to it - sometimes a little time is helpful! :) Anyhoo - I still think it looks lovely!

I've just come back to a drawing project I wanted to do 10 years ago, but just didn't have the drawing chops to do it justice. Now I've spent a year trying to figure out the best approach to doing it. Like Francesca and Sarah I love the picture but do understand your dilemma. Hope you figure it out.

I completely relate to this. Sometimes I lament that most of my projects are like this - living solely in my imagination/journals, and whenever I try to bring them to fruition, they're just not right. This illustration is beautiful though, for the record! :)

I love this! I don't know what the project is but you should definitely continue. This is the first time I have commented on your blog by the way but wanted to let you know that I discovered you by seeing (and buying) your 'living things' booklet at a shop in Singapore, where I live. I am now obsessed with your work! karla

I love it! She's so pretty with her freckles and red hair. What was it you were trying to go for, I wonder. I really love your work.
